Children on a windowsill

We all think that we are safe in our environment and surroundings, especially in our own home.

Most of us invest in solid doors, deadbolts, security surveillance systems, and other security measures, but many people overlook the windows surrounding the property.

Any windows and glass doors are a serious security & safety weak point. From break-ins to serious injury from flying obstacles. With no protection on windows they can easily be shattered letting in burglars, wind, rain and pests from entering with an opening path of destruction.

Installing window safety & security films is a more cost-effective way then upgrading the windows to double-glazed windows. You could upgrade all the windows on your property to double-glaze to achieve strength to the glass from impacts, but doing so would require a considerable about of investment.

Less expensive solution would be to have window security film installed, automatically upgrading the glass to a Grade A Safety slandered accordance with AS/NZS 2208.

Security window films are constructed of laminated layers of thick polyester films. The thicker polyester films come in different ranges from 4mil to 12mil (100-336 microns).

Each film type is manufactured with layers laminated to another through extreme special adhesives sandwiched together. The thickness of the film will determine the strength at breaking resistance.

With our 8mil to 12mil security film thicknesses, we highly recommend having these two types of films installed on residential properties and business buildings to benefit the max resist impacts of up to 336lb/inch pounds of pressure at breaking strength.

BENEFITS OF SECURITY FILM

🛡️ 1. Shatter Resistance

  • Helps hold glass together if broken, preventing dangerous shards from flying.

  • Reduces injuries during accidents, break-ins, or natural disasters.

🏠 2. Burglary Deterrence

  • Makes it significantly harder for intruders to break through windows quickly.

  • Delays forced entry, often causing intruders to flee or giving you time to respond.

🌪️ 3. Protection from Natural Disasters

  • Minimizes damage from wind-borne debris during storms or earthquakes.

  • Keeps broken glass intact, helping maintain a barrier from the elements.

🔥 4. Blast Mitigation

  • In events like explosions (industrial accidents or terrorism), security film helps prevent flying glass injuries.

  • Common in government, commercial, and high-risk buildings.

☀️ 5. UV Protection

  • Blocks up to 99% of harmful UV rays.

  • Protects furniture, flooring, and artwork from fading.

🌡️ 6. Energy Efficiency

  • Some security films also offer insulation benefits, reducing heat gain/loss.

  • Can help lower cooling/heating costs.

🧽 7. Easy Maintenance

  • Film is easy to clean and resists scratching (treated with a scratch resistant hard coat).

  • Can be replaced more easily than replacing glass.

DOES SECURITY WINDOW FILMS REALLY WORK?

Now that you have the run down on what window security films are, the question is: does it really work? The answer in fact is yes, they work very well indeed. When applied correctly with the correct installation methods they work.

We've tested the safety & security films with remarkable results.

Many stories from our previous clients have backed this up, with some saying that they had some windows smashed by a intruder with no entry, while they were at the premise.

Another one was when a tenant had their ornaments thrown at the windows with rage by a violent individual. They called us thanking us for installing the security films that saved their life.

An disabled occupant stubbled on the floor and went head first towards the bottom window panel, saved by the safety film that was installed a few months prior to the incident. The guardians were very thankful for our service and the film was replaced asap.

HOW DO WE INSTALL SECURITY FILMS?

Security window films are installed by our professional technician installers, by installing the security films on mainly the inside of existing windows.

If any windows are hard to navigate on the interior, we have an external specialty security films to be applied from the outside.

To make it easier for everyone, we do a scheduled site inspection to measure each window independently to have accurate sizes before trimming to size prior to installation.

This makes the process much easier to manage before installation.

Making the process much faster, less mess and not wasting time trimming on site.

The most common method of installing security window film is by having the film trimmed 1-2mm smaller than the actual window glass size.

This method is best for attaching the anchoring system with our structural silicone installed around the frame.

The reason for the gap on the film is to have a 3 point contact for the anchoring system to take maximum affect to hold on to the glass, security film layer and frame all at once creating a strong bond.

This insures a hold on the glass if there is a major impact not to bring the whole glass panel to cave in as one piece, making it easier for entry.

This method is also best for tempered glass windows as they shatter into thousands of small cube pieces.
